22779: Space, Intermediate Thematic Unit Space, Intermediate Thematic Unit
By Teacher Created Resources

Space contains a captivating, balanced-language, thematic unit. Its 80, exciting pages are filled with a wide variety of lesson ideas and reproducible pages designed for use with intermediate children. This book is divided into three chapters: Astronomy is Looking Up, We Become Space Travelers, and Touring the Solar System. Each of these chapters has suggestions for supplemental literature which expands the learning of the students on the topics they are studying. The activities within each chapter are like threads on a loom, weaving together to enable the students to develop their understanding of concepts related to the solar system in which they live. The threads used in this weaving include all areas of the curriculum. Many of these activities are done in cooperative-learning groups to encourage students to exchange and develop their ideas and projects together. Suggestions for interactive bulletin boards and related, extended research projects are provided for the teacher. Furthermore, the culminating activity is a play which applies the students' newly developed understanding of the solar system to create an exciting and informative presentation for other students to enjoy. This thematic unit contains the following: literature selections, planning guides, writing ideas, homework suggestions, curriculum connections, group projects, culminating activity, resource section, and an answer key. While this curriculum would work well with a coop learning situation
